Circular Abstractions - Off the Wall Friday

Orbital 1, Heather Pregger and Marks IV, Kaci Kyler

Recently, I was lucky enough to see the exhibit, Circular Abstractions - Bulls-eyes Quilts at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY.  The exhibit was born from a challenge issued by Nancy Crow to fellow artists, former students, and friends to come up with  their unique bulls-eye quilts (circular designs in a four quadrant pattern).  Obviously, when Nancy issues a challenge, people comply since what resulted was an amazing 51 full size quilt extravaganza.  The collection is so big that the Schweinfurth could only hold half!

Here's just a sampling:

Memory, Karen Querna and Roman Glass, Monica Johnstone

Ideas 5 by Julie Drake

Tumbling, Patricia Guthrie

Frameworks, Julia Graziano and Rolling Color,  Patricia Guthrie

Marks III. Kaci Kyler
So needless to say, this ain't your grandma's bulls-eye quilt.

So What Have Been Up to Creatively?

The Schweinfurth owns and plans Quilting by the Lake so they try to have a nice summer exhibit . The last few years, they had wonderful shows there!! Donna Lamb and her team are truly the best!

This exhibition is called Circular Abstractions, not Circular Attractions. The exhibition catalog is excellent.

Great! I didn't get to see it while I was there but I'm going to try to get down to the Fuller Museum to see theirs.

Thanks to Connie for catching my mistake. (You're a non-reply blogger so I couldn't send it personally). I was so afraid of messing up the artists' names I forgot to check the title!

Wow! I saw the show at the Muskegon, but haven't been able to make it up to the Schweinfurth. Thanks for the pictures!

Thanks for your enthusiasm for our show. We really pushed ourselves. That people are reached by the work is quite wonderful.
