Literally the Point Rock of Point Rock NY |
On another random note, I notice this week how fall is filled with all sorts of inspiration. We took a long weekend to visit my mother on her birthweek and the Tug Hill Plateau is so pretty this time of year. Just in case you didn't know, I was brought up in a place called Point Rock in Upstate New York. When I say Upstate - I don't mean what those
the symmetry and simple form of this caught Tessa's eye - nice huh?! |
Andddddd - on the last random note, I did manage to get the mirror frame done AND mailed to C&T Publishing in time. I am glad I added the hand stitching. It added a lot to it - plus I like the free motion drawing in contrast to the unevenness of the hand stitching (notice I manage to describe my art piece without that over used art world word juxtaposition). It was fun trying out some experimenting but I really do need to get my hands on some fall cotton! Between traveling this week, working 40 hrs and Tessa's unending play practice my studio is becoming a stranger to me. Sighhhh - next week will be different!
So What Have You been up to Creatively?

Yes, a perfect t-shirt.And some lovely photos from your daughter.
Have an inspiring week in your studio.
Lovely place you grew up!
Where in upstate is Rock Point? I understand what you mean about Up-State! I live near Rochester but grew up in NYC. :)
Read your post after I linked, sounds like you are on a Road Less Travelled as well!
The hand stitching adds the perfect touch :)
I grew up in the Adirondacks - gods country for sure. My mom still lives in Chestertown and am going to visit next week. Love, love it there.
May I use that photo of the bench for an inspiration for a possible quilt? I love it but would understand if you have plans for the photo yourself. It's a great shot. Tess has a good eye for beauty (wonder where she got that?) ;-)
Like the T-shirt. :-) As for "Up State" New York -- where I come from (Down-province, Quebec!), that would be Chateauguay or Malone...LOL!
And yes, I agree, the hand-stitching adds to the mirror's frame in a delightful way. I'm a bit biased, being a Big Fan of hand stitch, but still...it does. :-)
Love the T-shirt....could be a whole series :-)
As for not getting enough studio time...oh gee...its not a good feeling is it? Hope you can carve out more creative time very soon. It is HEALTHY for us!!!!....well, and even more so for those around us..he he he!
Your mirror is gorgeous, love it!
Your daughter has a great eye for photography!
First of all - thanks for the inspiration for the hand quilting - if it wasn't for OTW'ers - I wouldn't have fallen back in love with hand work!
Secondly - Point Rock is an hour northeast of Syracuse - north of Rome and Utica.
And any photos can be used for inspiration with credit given to Tessa Sayre. Elizabeth Barton told me that the reason Tessa has such a good eye for composition is because I've been arranging things properly for her her whole life and she mimics me - grin - its not inherent - but learned! Gee - who knew!!
Thanks for the kind words!!
Looks like a beautiful place. I understand about lack of covenience. I live in a rual area myself.
congrats on mailing off the mirror on time, and I second the comments on the bench. Wonderful photo.
