In the Spirit - 24" by 36" Oil, Bernard Hoyes |

I originally discovered his work back in 2007 while researching for my first class with Elizabeth Barton. I wanted to continue with my series of Women in motion - and boy can you see a lot of motion and e-motion in Hoyes work. Here he had already achieved what I had only had a glimpse of an idea of. It was frustrating and exciting all in the same moment. Still me being me - I ended up lost down a whole other path than the one I originally had set for myself. (Not surprisingly that piece is still not finished!)

Maybe I wasn't mature enough - maybe I got too excited in class and didn't give myself enough time to play. (Elizabeth wrote a great blog post this week on the importance of playing with an idea). So, with my dye supplies safely put away, Sandy's great blog on Fiber International done - I'm going to take a whole week to play with different sketch ideas using Hoyes work as a leaping off point. I originally thought I might try to get a few done before this post's deadline - but why rush myself?
So I promise over the next week - you will see where my play time has taken me!
Forgot to tell you all - the good news of the week is that this year lily piece - finally entitled - In the Secret, In the Quiet Place - was juried into the Lily Art Festival. Paul's entry - a lily blanket chest (gorgeousssss) made it in too. With my luck he'll sell it!
So what have you been up to creatively?
Now its your turn to link up!
Here are the rules:
- Link up any post from the past week that is creatively driven, WIP, Finish Pieces, Process oriented etc - Art Quilt perferred, any media accepted
- Somewhere in your post, please link back to my blog
- Please visit some of the other blogs and leave a comment or two - an encouraging word means a lot to an artist!
- Be Inspired!
