Well the saga of the commissioned memorial quilt continues. I did a bunch of sewing this week and have lots of the pieces done - just really have to get them together in the final set. Its been a bit of a trial though because I haven't done a traditional quilt in so long - at least not one that I designed. I've had to rip unsew quite a few seams because I'm not following my original draft closely - sighhhhhhh! hate that!! Still, it seems I'm on the right track and should finish up this week.
One thing I did get to try was a new kind of inkjet photo transfer paper. In the past, I haven't been too impressed with the prepackaged fabric, so I've gone through the hassle of using bubble jet and doing my own fabric. This time though I used June Tailor's Colorfast Inkjet fabric sheets. Wow! They worked really nice. The colors came much crisper than other brands I used. Also, I followed the directions on the packaging and they colors actually didn't fade when I put water to them - very nice! So happy since I spent quite a bit of time working on the photos using Photoshop Elements.
Anyways. . . .next decision. . . do I send it out to be machine quilted or do I work on doing a quilt as you go method - always somethin' isn't it?!

Looks like that is a great challenge. I've got some of that photo transfer around the house. It might be time to put some labels on some of my quilts soon.
This quilt looks like lots of fun. What a keepsake!
Photo quilts are such a challenge, but a fun one. Very cool pieced frames.
This is only 2 parts of 6 parts that I need to finish up today! Then just gotta get the flying geese and the center in! Hopefully I'll have a pic of the finished top later this week! thanks for the encouragement everyone - its a blessing!
It's looking good! I've never tried printing on fabric. When I decide to take the leap I'll definitely be looking for that product.
I like it. The colors really are bright and crisp in the photos. I'll have to try that brand next time. I've never done the quilt as you go but if you're good at that, go for it.
Looking good! I love the memories quilt.
Do you have much experience with those printer sheets in the wash? I guess it is too much to hope for to have any of them do very well in a quilt that will be washed.
I need to do some dog items for the National Specialty Auction in Sept and really wanted to do a quilt with pictures from the calendar I produce for them.

The family is really going to love this quilt: so many fabrics to hold memories and then the pictures, too. Great job.
Hi there Glen - well this is the first time I used these sheets but I did test them. They specifically said NOT to use detergent but they were waterfast. If you need to wash a quilt then to use a very week detergent. When I give this kind of quilt to a client, I usually suggest giving it a light vacuum 4 times a year - It still sorta freaks me out making a quilt out of so many different types of fabrics - cottons, polys, knits etc.
The photo transfers do look really vivid! Someday I'll try that too. Thanks for the review of the June Tailor version :)
Good to know that this kind of photo transfer sheet is a good product...thanks for passing along the info. Your blocks look great!
