So what's up with that??? I mean, I really do love hand applique and have been missing the quietness of it --- I have a great book with instructions and tons of patterns for baskets ---- what's the problem??? I realized what I didn't like about applique was followin' the stinkin' pattern. I mean is it just me or is it really hard to get everything just in the right places?? Plus when you're all done - it looks just like the pattern which is obviously someone else's work.
"I don't need no stinkin' pattern!" - Closed the book and just cut me a 24" square of pretty blush fabric for in the middle. I thought about how I envisioned the basket and how was the best way to make it. So I cut some brown strips - Ironed them in half (lengthwise) and placed them somewhere where I thought the basket should start . Then I sewed down the raw edge side with my sewing machine and blind stitched the finished side. WOOT! One little part of the basket done. Now, I just gotta build from there.
I've never did an applique like this - where I kinda made it up as I went. This ought to be interesting. Not to mention maybe I should take my own advice and try to learn something new with each project. It looks like we have a week of rain and cold so its going to be a good week to sew!
Ohhh and the Open Studio Day went great!! But that story is for tomorrow!
