Can't Create in Chaos! A Sewing Hole in Distress

I don't know about you but there is nothing I love more than order.  A place for everything and everything in its place.  So why is it so dang hard to keep it that way???  You'd think the way I value neatness, that I would have figured out in 40 years how to be neat??   Yes, I admit it  ---- its a never ending battle.

That said, I went to use my sewing hole for the first time in three weeks and found that I could not find it.  I mean, I'm quite sure I left it there somewhere, but with all the clutter that had accumulated in the room, I'm not sure where.  I've been so busy doing handwork in my recliner in front of the TV that I really haven't visited the hole in forever. . . . well. . . at least not to sew in  that is.  Still, I haven't had any trouble using it as a dumping ground for all things that don't belong in there.  Add to that the fact that I have several projects going at once and you get. . . .wait for it. . . .a big mess!

So I thought if I blogged out the before and after, I might manage to get the room clean so I could sew again.  I mean can anybody create in chaos???  I can't.  Usually that includes the whole house - if the house is messy - my mind seems to be messy.  Can't create with a messy mind can you??

So with your help, I've taken a couple evenings and cleaned up the room.  It was a work out though since most of the things needed to go up on my third floor where I keep my fabric stash - sighhh - but God knows my thighs could use it - the work out I mean - not the fabric stash.

Doesn't it look nice???  Now onto making those pine branches!

Nice work! It's wonderful that you have such a nice room just for your sewing. Love the before and after photos.

When one is being creative it is hard to keep things neat! I live full time in a motorhome and all of my art supplies for quilting are stored in a closet in the bedroom. When I am working on a piece, I load and unload that closet at least ten times a day because I don't have room to leave things out!

I have the same amount of stuff out, in a 10' x 11' room. I feel like I have to have my arms straight at my side to be able to turn around.

Maybe this weekend would be a good time to make a dent in the mess? Goals are good!

I can relate to this problem also. Great idea to obligate yourself online. It was a worthy goal. Also, I have decided to stop calling it my sewing room. It is a studio now.

You have a wonderful, large work area! And great job cleaning it up :)

I just love your tree quilt and can't wait to see the handwork.

Wowwee!!! Looks awesom and that quilt with the trees is fab. I love the detail of what appears to be snow at the base of the black tree. I am going to enjoy visiting you! Em

I too always have a mess where I sew and create things , Just this week my husband had a shed given to us so now I have a place to store alot of my arts and craft things plus some of my fabric stash will go into tubs to make more room , Love your tree with the thread painting, I have books on how to, but I have not started them yet , you have inspired me to get started .Thanks for posting about this .

I can totally relate. I also suffer from messy studio-itis, and like you I recently cleaned it up. It took an upcoming visit from some quilting friends to motivate me. Now the trick is to keep it neat!!!
