I know it sounds amazing, but working full time sure cuts into my productivity on the Pretties. They've been on my mind all week, if not in my actual hands. I've been thinking. . . . what if. . I look to the masters to help design the applique medallion I have planned for this quilt. When I say masters, I mean, like truly a master - like Elly Sienkiewicz - Queen of the Baltimore Album quilt master. Seriously, is there anybody that has left her mark on applique like this woman?? I've always loved her work - have a half a dozen Baltimore blocks socked away somewhere and have treasured her books. My favorite is the Dimensional Applique, Baskets, Blooms and Baltimore Borders.
I've used the book in the past to make my own designs of applique flowers, but I've never attempted one of her baskets. I spent a whole evening reacquainting myself with the majesty of Miss Elly and I think I'm ready to dive back into the madness of the Baltimore Album Block.
Don't even ask me how long this foray into the traditional quilting is going to last - because I'm already getting the bug to start a new art quilt - grin!
So what have you been up to creatively????
I have a couple of her books. She is the ultimate applique artist!
ReplyDeleteDon't you think that Baltimore Album type quilts are the mother of art quilts? So beautiful! Looking forward to seeing what you will do.
ReplyDeleteOh, I missed the hanging of The Beauties! Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAnd I do agree that all quilts look triple better when hung!

ReplyDeleteI hope to do one one day!
ReplyDeleteI have 3 of her books. I have a beyond baltimore that has been sitting around for years. I ran a year long class when I had a quilt shop and I think I am the only one who didn't complete my quilt!
