There has been some talk on my art quilt on what's the best venues to show one's work. The choices are many - local or national - gallery or special event - mixed media or media driven. In today's economy, you want to make sure that you are choosing right. So with that in mind, I decided to enter this year's local mix media fall show held in Meadville, PA. Its only 30 mins from my house, the Meadville Arts Council has a good reputation, the entry fee is low and it has monetary prizes. Plus their gallery is great. Its in this pretty old Market building that sits right in the center of Meadville.
I was honored to be included in their show this year. I was so jazzed because it gave me a reason to go and see the show. What did I find???
A whole gallery of VERY approachable art! There were so many pieces there that I loved and would gladly have in my home. It seems lately when I see an art exhibit, its filled with depressing, border line annoying art. I mean its interesting enough - but
GADS! Who wants to have
that in their home?!

Jude Ongley's Award Winner! |

Although there were no prizes for me, a fellow fiber artist, Jude Ongley won a MCA prize for her abstract piece. Not only did I think it was well deserved, but I love the way she mounted her piece on a stretcher bar. She promised to share that technique with me - so I can't wait. Also, my friend Eliza Wolfe entered her amazing ceramics and got it. I'm so thankful to have a friend who encourages me to enter with her!
The show runs the whole month of October and its been a great experience. Since Paul hasn't seen it, we're going back to enjoy it again.
Plus, I've already put it on my calendar to enter next year!
What a great idea on how to exhibit some of your work with out it being to intimidating - well done:)

Any venue that you show in is a plus for you and more experience (for shows) under your belt. That said, you go girl! Fabulous, fun and very exciting times!
