I'm so glad to be once again participating in the  Blogger's Quilt Festival.  When Amy asked that we share the story behind the quilt, this quilt came immediately to mind.   Before I had my princess daughter, I always was into very dark, somber colors.  It seemed like all I wanted was muted traditional hues.  When God blessed us with Tessa, it was like the light broke through all those many years of wine, navy and beige and replaced them with fushia, yellow and fire engine red.  She was such a joy. . . . .well . . . and a handful. 

You see Tessa walked just before she turned 9 months and was a toddler on the go and go we went!!!  Really a day didn't go by where we didn't go for a walk, or take a ride, or explore some new adventure.  

2002

One warm spring day when Tessa was about 3, we were walking to the shops of our little borough.  It used to take us forever to go the short 3 blocks because Tessa had to stop and examine every little thing.  When we were almost there, she stopped to look at a leaf.  She got closer and closer and then waved me in to look too.  She said, "Momma is that a ladybug???"  I told her yes it was.  She told me "Shhhhhhhh I think its sleeping"  and off she went on her journey.

The moment stayed with me all day and inspired me to pull out a favorite greeting card I had gotten from a fellow quilter.  It was joyous graphic flower with a lone ladybug perched on it.  I used the thoughts of Tessa's words and the card to design the above quilt.  Now that Tessa is a worldly teenager, I'm so glad that I have the quilt to remind me of those moments when a ladybug held so much wonder.  It might not be my most perfect piece but it will always be one of my favorites!
